Leveraging Current and Future Infrastructure to Deliver Broadband to Organizations in NWPA
Bob Roland, Sting Communication and Matt Wiertel, VNET
In 2007, Sting Communications in partnership with several local entities including Velocity Network, Coaxial Cable of Edinboro, DES Communications, and Time Warner deployed a high-speed fiber optic network to connect school districts in the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit (IU5). By utilizing available funding sources, the schools now enjoy an enterprise grade network and have dramatically upgraded their capacity. This year, several additional sites will be connected to the network and many schools are connecting sites within their district to utilize emerging technologies.
Now that an enterprise grade network is available in areas where high bandwidth connectivity is often expensive or is not available, new opportunities exist for businesses and other organization to take advantage of the network built by the partner entities. The session will discuss the impacts of the IU5 RWAN project and what lies ahead for enterprise level broadband services in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
