Northwest Pennsylvania Metals & Metal Fabrication Industry Partnership

Northwest Pennsylvania Metals & Metal Fabrication Industry Partnership (MMF) is a member of the larger Manufacturing Education and Economic Network formed by the Workforce Investment Boards of Northwest, North Central and West Central PA. The IP focuses on incumbent worker training, public perceptions of the metalworking industry, secondary school student outreach and worker pipeline development and partnering with community groups.

MMF Strategies

• Develop outreach programs targeted to secondary students and displaced workers focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities, including participation in the nationally renowned RoboBots IQ Project
• Implement employee training programs to acquire and refine skills in welding, digital technologies, and process machining
• Initiate collaborative efforts with community economic development groups, including co-sponsorships of career fairs and career education symposia

Metal and Metal Fabrication Results

The MMF Industry Partnership includes 53 regional businesses, 9 educational institutions and 8 economic development partners. Approximately 300 employees have been trained to date, and the partnership has secured $65,000 in partnership development funds and $375, 000 in training funds. Training programs sponsored by the Partnership include Pro-Engineering, DP Esprit and Lean Manufacturing and Robotics, and the group also contributed to the development of customized curricula in welding, machining and process machine operation.

Completed products include:

• Development and Implementation of Industry Needs Assessment (includes Knowledge-Skill-Ability Profile of 15 designated occupation, 7 to 10 year occupational demand analysis, and regional employer survey)
• Outreach support to the NTMA and Manufacturer's Association
• Development of a master marketing campaign
