Wired and Wireless – Where the Industry is: Where the Industry is Heading
Carolyn Newhouse, Super User Technologies
Companies can function without too many issues at 10/100Base-T over Cat5e. As speeds increase and convergence technologies such as VoIP, IP-Security, IP-Paging, etc. are deployed, more/faster/better communications infrastructure is needed. What used to be called cabling with a few access points thrown in is now “information transport systems” (ITS) with more rigorous industry standards and codes. Your communications infrastructure is now critical to your day-to-day operations as your network clients consume more bandwidth.
What are the latest and up-and-coming ANSI/TIA/EIA industry standard and how do these standards drive or reflect the marketplace? How will the latest 802.11n wireless standard impact companies? On the wired side – will companies continue to invest in cabling infrastructure? Is 10G really here?
This presentation looks to provide accurate information on the ‘real’ marketplace with accurate (summarized!) information on the focus of the applicable standards bodies.
